Track and Field

Linus Pauling teams are open to all students who are willing to work hard and be responsible students and citizens. These are no-cut sports.
Track and field contains essential elements of almost all sports, including throwing, jumping, and running. Our athletes compete in the shot put, discus, javelin, high jump, long jump, 100M hurdles, and distances of 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, and 3000 meters. There are also 4x100M and 4x400M relays. We are members of the Mid-Valley Coast Conference, in which we compete against schools mainly between Salem and Eugene, and from Newport to Sweet Home. We also host the biggest and most competitive middle school track meet in the state: the Oregon Middle School Meet of Champions.
There is an event for everyone in middle school track and field. We have students who are participating in a team sport for the first time as well as athletes who will go on to be stars in the sport. A number of our alumni have gone on to become high school state champions and college athletes.
