Attendance

Regular attendance is critical to the success of your student. We ask that you work with and encourage your students to regularly attend classes and arrive on time so they can build a strong foundation as they progress toward independence.

Circumstances for an Excused Absence

A child may be excused from school for the following circumstances:

  • Student illness or injury
  • Bereavement or illness of an immediate family member that requires the student to stay home
  • Religious instruction (under regulation of Oregon law)
  • Educational or occupational interviews
  • Emergency situations that require the student’s absence
  • School-approved field trips and activities
  • Medical or dental appointments (verification of appointment may be needed)
  • Legal or court appointments
  • Other reasons approved by the Corvallis School District

Arriving to Class on Time

Students must use passing time wisely. Students should be in their seats and ready to learn when the bell rings; otherwise, they will be marked tardy.

  • Noon detention will be assigned after the 3rd tardy.
  • Additional consequences can result from excessive tardies including phone calls and meetings with parent/guardian/home partner.
  • Students arriving more than 10 minutes late without a pass will be marked absent for that class period.
  • Tardy tracking restarts at the beginning of each trimester.

Attendance alerts

There may be lag time between the time you report your student’s absence as excused and the time the information is entered into the database. It is also possible that a student who is marked absent is actually tardy, and the absence will be changed later in the day.  Please allow time for data to become current before contacting the attendance office.

Our attendance alerts go through your Parent Square account (this is separate from ParentVUE).

Excusing an Absence

Please call the LPMS attendance line at (541) 757-3980 before 9:15 am on the day of the absence.

Voicemail is available on the attendance line 24/7 for your convenience. Parent/guardians/home partners can also leave a note at the main office prior to the day of the absence. When excusing your student’s absence, please include:

  • Your name and relationship to the student
  • Student’s full name
  • Date, time and reason for absence
  • Phone number where you can be contacted
  • If no reason is given, the student will be considered unexcused.

Planning Absences

If you are making plans to take a vacation outside of the regularly scheduled school year or vacations/days off, you must complete the LPMS Pre-Arranged Absence Form (available in the office upon request) and submit it to the front office for approval at least two days before the absence begins.

The office must be notified if your student will be picked up from school by anyone other than their parent, guardian, or a person on the emergency contact list.

If you are picking up your student early from school, please call before you arrive at the school! This allows us to have your child ready to go to sign your student out when you arrive. Please note that it is difficult to track down a student during lunch/recess, as students have choices regarding where they go during these times.
