LPMS Cross Country
Cross country is a fun, no-cut sport that is open to students willing to work hard and strive for improvement.  We train on streets, trails, and parks around Corvallis and we race on 3000M (1.8 mile) courses throughout the Willamette Valley.
What do you need to do to prepare?

Over the summer, work on conditioning.  This will look very different for different athletes.  Our experienced athletes should be running 3-4 days a week with other athletes and consider racing a fun run or two.  If you are just starting, slowly build endurance, aiming to be able to run a mile non-stop by the last week of August.

Other things that will help over the summer: playing soccer, frisbee, etc. Going hiking or backpacking. Biking. And more! Anything active will help you be successful once cross country starts.

When do we practice?

Conditioning week specifics:
August 25 & 26, 4:15-5:30: Drop off and pick up at the Avery Park Lions Shelter
August 27 & 28, 4:15-5:30: Drop off and pick up at Crystal Lake Sports Park
For each day, expect a mix of dynamic warmups, running, core exercises, and get-to-know-you activities.  Our professional coaches will have multiple variations of each workout based on an athlete’s condition.

Everyone should be ready to run with appropriate clothing, shoes, and a water bottle.

Looking ahead, there will be no practice on Labor Day.  Regular practices will begin on Tuesday, September 2, starting and ending at the outside basketball courts.  All regular practices will last from 3:55-5:15.  The unusual start time is because the new MS bell schedule ends at 3:40 instead of last year’s 3:30.
